Leader Awareness Camp EPFO Weather CEASEFIRE Border Security Force jawans today foiled an infiltration bid along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district, killing an intruder. According to Police sources, there was movement of suspected persons along the International Border in Kulian-Suchetpur Border Out Posts in Samba district in the wee hours today. BSF troops guarding the border challenged them and opened fire following which Pakistani troops fired at Indian forward posts to give cover fire to the infiltrators. This led to heavy exchange of fire between the two sides in which an infiltrator was killed. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has yesterday expressed deep concern over repeated ceasefire violations from across the border. He said that the Center needs to take up the issue with Pakistan in a strong manner as it was getting more serious now. He said that the way civilian areas are being targeted in shelling by Pak troops indicates that Pakistan’s intentions are not good. PM-VISITS Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will leave for Moscow tomorrow on a five-day visit of Russia and China. In Moscow, Dr. Singh will attend 14th Indo-Russian Summit. He will be attending the Bilateral Summit for tenth year in a row. Defence cooperation is blooming with Russia supplying India Submarines, Ships, Fighter Air Craft, and jointly developing a fifth generation Fighter. On the second leg of his visit, Dr. Singh will arrive in Beijing on Tuesday. This would be the first time that Prime Ministers of the two neighbouring countries travel to each other’s country in the same year. Besides meetings with Chinese President, Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, Dr. Singh would also have the privilege to address Chinese Communist Party’s Central School, the higher education institution that trains officials for the ruling party. Further deepening of economic cooperation with a special focus on correcting trade deficit and border defence cooperation agreement with China to set tighter ground rules for the armed forces along the Line of Actual Control are high on the agenda. KHURSHID-CEASEFIRE Terming the ceasefire violations on the LoC as a matter of serious concern, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid today said it is not just an issue of diplomacy but also of military relations. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, he maintained that the government is giving it high priority. Expressing full confidence in the defence forces, the Minister said, the country owes a tremendous gratitude to them, both for showing restraint, firmness, and determination and for total preparedness to face any onslaught. Maintaining that this issue is one of high-priority for the government, Mr.Khurshid said a meeting of the DGMOs of both the countries should be held soon. EPFO Employees Provident Fund Organisation, EPFO, has settled nearly eight lakh claims during September this year. It has also responded to more than 16 thousand grievances. A Labour and Employment Ministry statement issued in New Delhi said, the fund body has received over six thousand crore rupees under remittances in the month compared to 5,961 crore rupees in August. The statement said, the EPFO, has updated 4.55 crore accounts in September. Militant Strike: Source : PTI An army jawan was today injured when a road opening party of security forces came under attack from militants in Kupwara district. According to Police, militants opened fire on the road opening party of 30 Rashtriya Rifles of the army near Handwara town resulting in injuries to one soldier. They said that the soldier was taken to a military hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. Soon after the firing, army and police cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt for the assailants. Accident: Source; PTC Three person died and twelve other injured, two of them seriously when a vehicle skidded off the road down into a deep George while negotiating a sharp curve in Chattroo tehsil of Kishtwar district today. According to our Kishtwar correspondent vehicle was on its way from Kokernag(Anantnag) to Kishtwar when the mishap occurred. One person died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries. The injured have been shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar. Awareness Camp: Source; Information With a view to make people living in temperate areas aware about the latest technology of agriculture especially use of hybrid vegetable seeds for increasing production and productivity, the Agriculture Department held a farmer’s awareness camp yesterday in a hilly village at Parla Chapper of Latti zone in Udhampur district. During the camp, use of seed treatment, preparation of compost pits for boosting the vegetable and agricultural production was discussed threadbare. On the occasion, the department distributed hybrid, open pollinated vegetable seeds of knoll khol, peas, cabbage and raddish among the farmers free of Ceasefire – Protest: Source: PTI Following an infiltration bid in the morning today and ceasefire violations over the last 24 hours, BSF today lodged a strong protest with Pakistan Rangers over the incidents along the International Border (IB) in Jammu. According to BSF official, the protest was lodged by BSF through a communication via the forward post at Kulian-Suchetpur along IB in Samba district today after the Pakistani side earlier failed to respond to a call for a flag meeting on IB at the Kulian-Suchetpur forward post. Pakistani troops, however, denied having a hand in the infiltration attempt. Against the backdrop of increased ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde is to visit the forward areas along IB on October 22 to review the situation. Rana – Ceasefire: Source: Information Deputy Chairman, State Legislative Council, Javed Ahmed Rana has expressed serious concern on the violation of ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in the State. The Deputy Chairman has requested to the Government of India to take immediate steps in this regard and has also requested the State Government to take immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected families along LoC.
