According to an army official Troops noticed movement of heavily armed militants near the LoC in Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district, during the intervening night of August 30 and 31. The infiltrators were challenged by the troops leading to a gunfight between the two sides. The elimination of the infiltrators comes a day after security forces killed five top foreign militants of Hizbul Mujahideen, including district commander Qari Assadullah, in Kangan area of central Kashmir Ganderbal district. Infiltration attempts by militants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have increased over the past three months and more than 20 ultras have been killed during operations along the LoC. Sonia-Women Urging for a social revolution to check crime against women, ensure gender equality and women empowerment, UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi has called for stringent implementation of laws at the ground level to ensure safety and security of women. Mrs. Gandhi said, making laws and policies is not enough and proper and effective implementation of the laws and schemes for females at grass root level is required to curb each and every case of crime against women. Mrs Gandhi said this while, launching the ‘Ahimsa Messenger’ Programme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development in New Delhi today. She said, there is a need to bring a change in the mindset of the people to reduce crime against women. Mrs. Gandhi said, UPA is taking several steps to empower women. Mrs. Gandhi said, every right a male child enjoys in a family should be given to the girl child too. She said, the UPA government is taking all steps to empower women. Evening News Bulletin---- August 31, 2013 President—Awards President Pranab Mukherjee will confer Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award on ace shooter Ronjon Sodhi today. He will also honour the recipients of Dronacharya Awards, Arjuna Awards, Dhyan Chand Awards and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar at a specially organised function at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. Arjuna awardees include Virat Kohli- Cricket, Kavita Chahal-Boxing, Gaganjit Bhullar-Golf, Saba Anjum- Hockey, Rajkumari Rathore-Shooting, PV Sindhu-Badminton and Neha Rathi-Wrestling. Apart from a medal and citation, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee will receive a cash prize of 7.5 lakh rupees while Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand Awardees will receive statuettes, citations and cash prize of 5 lakh rupees each. Recipients of Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar will be given Trophies. All India Radio, Delhi will broadcast live the Award presentation ceremony from 05.55 p.m. It will also be available on other frequencies. RAILWAY Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Member, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee has said that despite increase in the railway traffic at Jammu railway station still the infrastructure put in place in 1972 is l being used with hardly any addition to it. Addressing a press conference in Jammu today, he said that due to outdated infrastructure passengers have to face lots of difficulties and keeping all these facts in mind they took up various important issues with Chairman Passenger Services Committee which mainly included, to increase ticket reservation & general ticket counters to cater to the inflow of the users, during the recent rains it was observed that the sheds at the platform at Jammu railway station were leaking, there was water everywhere at the platform and water logging added more to the problems of the passengers who had hardly any place to sit therefore it was suggested that the sheds should immediately be got repaired, there is urgent need of additional platforms at Jammu railway station. The demand to replace DMU with EMU and its composition should be increased from 6 Boogies in number to 12 Boogies as soon as possible, timings of Udhampur to Jammu daily DMU should be changed keeping in view the timings of the Govt. offices in the State. Chairman Passenger Services Committee assured that their demands will be looked into at the earliest. Addressing a public gathering at Pattan in Baramulla, Kashmir, the Chief Minister said that some elements do not want India and Pakistan to talk as they want the burning issues to remain burning for their vested interests. he asserted that friendly ties between the two neighbour have direct bearing on the peace and development situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the people of the State are eager to see the two countries talking amicably and in a conducive atmosphere to resolve all issues including Sechien, Sircreck, Kashmir, etc. Evening News Bulletin---- August 31, 2013 SCHOLARSHIP-POONCH To give financial assistance to the students of Minority community, Social Welfare department has disbursed Rs 4.56 Lacs to the 711 students in Poonch district. EVENING NEWS BULLETIN 31-8-13 HAJJ-ARRANGEMENTS Arrangements for the conduct of smooth Hajj pilgrimage-2013 from Srinagar were finalized at a divisional level meeting of officers chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar yesterday. It was informed that two flights shall be operated daily with a capacity of 275 Hajj pilgrims in each flight which shall operate directly from Srinagar International Airport to Medina Munwara. It was decided that as many as 894 Hajj pilgrims from Jammu Division, Kargil and Leh who shall report to Srinagar Hajj House one day before their scheduled flights shall be provided transport, boarding and loading facilities. The reporting time for all Hajj pilgrims of the first flight to be operated daily shall be 9 a.m while as for the second flight the reporting time shall be 11 a.m, the meeting was informed. Replying to a query on the communal clashes in Kishtwar, Azad said the ministerial team deployed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has done a commendable job as they have created good atmosphere by bringing both the communities together.
