EVENING MEDITATION WITH JAMES MARTIN, SJ: GODS POWER Yesterday - TopicsExpress

EVENING MEDITATION WITH JAMES MARTIN, SJ: GODS POWER Yesterday I experienced the following: An earthquake (4.4) in Los Angeles, where I was staying with my Jesuit brothers at Loyola Marymount University, whose onset made me think immediately of Gods power, and the words What is man that you are mindful of him? Then, a gloriously warm morning as I walked from my room to the Jesuit dining room and saw a bush that I had only ever seen in East Africa--its called (at least in Kenya) a Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow bush, because the flowers first turn purple one day, then lavender the next and white on the third day. Then the new show Cosmos, hosted by the astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, which was I watched on the TV screen on the plane, and during which the formation of the sun was explained. Then a beautiful sunset as the plane landed in New York. And finally, a frigid blast of air that greeted me as I left the airport and waited for a taxi. All of these things--so different and yet all connected--made me think about the way that Gods power is manifested in nature. The earthquake, the warm morning, the flowering tree, the formation of the sun, the orange sunset and the cold air, are all part of the natural world, which, no matter how long it took to be created, was created by God. Can you appreciate nature in your life? Perhaps tonight you can think of one thing in the natural world that amazed you today, and let it move you to prayer. May all your yesterdays, todays and tomorrows be filled with wonder at Gods presence in nature. https://facebook/FrJamesMartin
