~ EVENSONG • Opening Sentence Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; let the whole earth tremble before him. Psalm 96:9 • Collect of the Day ~ Proper 26 Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. • A Collect for Protection O God, the life of all who live, the light of the faithful, the strength of those who labor, and the repose of the dead: We thank you for the blessings of the day that is past, and humbly ask for your protection through the coming night. Bring us in safety to the morning hours; through him who died and rose again for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. • For Mission O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For the Future of the Human Race O God our heavenly Father, you have blessed us and given us dominion over all the earth: Increase our reverence before the mystery of life; and give us new insight into your purposes for the human race, and new wisdom and determination in making provision for its future in accordance with your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • Hymn “Jesus the Name High Over All” - The Hymn Writers Jesus! the Name high over all, In hell or earth or sky; Angels and men before it fall, And devils fear and fly. Jesus! the Name to sinners dear, The Name to sinners giv’n; It scatters all their guilty fear, It turns their hell to Heav’n. Jesus! the prisoner’s fetters breaks, And bruises Satan’s head; Power into strengthless souls it speaks, And life into the dead. O that mankind might taste and see The riches of His grace! The arms of love that compass me Would all the world embrace. O that my Jesu’s heavenly charms Might every bosom move! Fly, sinners, fly into those arms Of everlasting love. Thee I shall constantly proclaim, Though earth and hell oppose; Bold to confess Thy glorious Name Before a world of foes. His only righteousness I show, His saving grace proclaim; ’Tis all my business here below To cry “Behold the Lamb!” Happy, if with my latest breath I may but gasp His Name, Preach Him to all and cry in death, “Behold, behold the Lamb!” - Charles Wesley (1749) youtube/watch?v=-VPBc7lXnOQ
