The Baháí Faith was founded by Baháulláh in 19th-century Persia. Baháulláh was exiled for his teachings from Persia to the Ottoman Empire and died while officially still a prisoner. After Baháulláhs death, under the leadership of his son, `Abdul-Bahá, the religion spread from its Persian and Ottoman roots, and gained a footing in Europe and America, and was consolidated in Iran, where it suffers intense persecution.[4] After the death of `Abdul-Bahá, the leadership of the Baháí community entered a new phase, evolving from a single individual to an administrative order with both elected bodies and appointed individuals.[5] There are probably more than 5 million Baháís around the world in more than 200 countries and territories.[3][6] In the Baháí Faith, religious history is seen to have unfolded through a series of divine messengers, each of whom established a religion that was suited to the needs of the time and to the capacity of the people. These messengers have included Abrahamic figures—Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, as well as Dharmic ones—Krishna, Buddha, and others. For Baháís, the most recent messengers are the Báb and Baháulláh. In Baháí belief, each consecutive messenger prophesied of messengers to follow, and Baháulláhs life and teachings fulfilled the end-time promises of previous scriptures. Humanity is understood to be in a process of collective evolution, and the need of the present time is for the gradual establishment of peace, justice and unity on a global scale.[7] Islam and the Bahai Faith ~~~ The Bahai Faith proclaims an underlying oneness that binds all major world religions. All are connected through the unity of their originating source, and the similarities in their core teachings. The different relationships between the Bahai Faith and many of these religions are explored at various web sites. The relationship between Islam and the Bahai Faith has its own particulars. It is affected by the proximity between the two Faiths in both time and geography. This site was established with the hope of promoting a better understanding of the relationship between the Bahai Faith and Islam. Since its inception in the mid eighteen hundreds, the Bahai Faith has been regarded by many, in the region where it started, with mistrust and suspicion. Numerous accusations have been made concerning its origins and its goals and aims. At the very least, it has been belittled as a misguided and insignificant sect of Islam.
