EVER WONDER ABOUT THOSE ORANGE FENCES ON CONSTRUCTION SITES: Some projects have environmental regulations. For example, this job in Menifee has many Live Oak trees that are to be protected throughout the project. The orange fence in the pictures represents the trespassing limitations, while the wooden stakes represent the toe of the proposed slope (bottom of slope). Most engineered slopes are prepared with a keyway at the toe of the slope for added slope reinforcement, which is general constructed on a specified feet of engineered fill. With nearby oak trees, there was possibility of root disturbance. Seen here are potholes being made by an excavator to evaluate underlying soil conditions for an engineered slope as well as the root conditions of the nearby oak trees. Heider Engineering, along with geologists, biologists, and the contractors on the project met to develop a compromise ensuring that the slopes can be engineered properly while also preserving the nearby oak trees and their roots.
