EVERYONE LOVES A HAPPY ENDING As the magic hour of midnight nears (and my biological clock officially prepares to shift over to Senior Standard Time), I find myself taking stock of what it all means. Not much, frankly! Of course, given that Im aiming for triple digits, this birthday represents no more than one more mile post on my long journey. Still, I have noticed some changes that come with age. I dont blush anymore, for one thing. And thats not because Im incapable of doing something worthy of a blush. I just dont care. And if Im as irascible as ever when confronted with inanity, people seemed prepared to accept that as normal behaviour for a grumbling geezer. Finally!!! In point of fact, Ive come to the conclusion that I was born to be old. And during all those years that have led to this one, I was merely practicing.
