EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON: The Amazing Brett Kissel & Brad Paisley Story Without even focusing on the fact that I met Brad Paisley 10 years ago, and he signed an autograph that said, Save Me A Spot On Your Tour - Brad Paisley, throughout this entire experience, I feel as though I am exactly where I am meant to be. This is what happened yesterday... My flight into Sault Ste Marie, Ontario last night was delayed, then eventually cancelled. So I had to go to a different airline, at a different airport in Toronto, to book a different flight into Sault Ste Marie. When that flight was also eventually cancelled, I had to resort to flying in a private jet - just to make it to the show on time. When the entire Sault Ste Marie airport ended up closing due to weather, the window of opportunity for me actually making the show was closed. Private plane or not. Or so I thought. Brad Paisleys team informed me that Brad had flown into a private airport on the Michigan side of the US/CANADA Border. So we rerouted our flight to land in Michigan at the Chippewa Airport. We got clearance for Customs, and took off. The 45 minute flight was going to get us into Sault Ste Marie just in time. I was obviously thrilled. It was 5:45 pm. I landed at 6:30 pm. BUT... The customs officials in Michigan, WOULD NOT LET US LEAVE THE PLANE for 1 hour! Because of this completely ridiculous, frustrating, and unknown hiccup, I ended up missing my very first concert in my entire career (that spans close to 15 years.) Customs were finally through with me, my wife Cecilia, and our two private pilots, when we got into our car, and drove the 20 minutes to the venue - across the border. Brad Paisley was already on stage. I was devastated. When I got to the Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie, my social media accounts had exploded with upset fans all disappointed that I couldnt make the show. I didnt have the heart to tell them I was actually in the venue only a few minutes late, and I didnt want to fly off the handle with my miserable customs experience either. Thats when the worst day turned into the best day. Brad called me up onstage to join him for 1 song, that turned into 2 songs, that turned into 3 songs. I played: 3-2-1, I Can Play Guitar (with the Brad Paisley line belted out loud), and Mud on the Tires. Oh, and did I mention that he accompanied me the entire time? I mean, just imagine: Brad Paisley doing guitar solos and singing harmony...!? 20 minutes onstage with one of my all time heroes will go down as one of the best, if not THE BEST musical experience of my life. Had I made it to the venue in time, I would have enjoyed my regular 30-40 minute set, as an opening act. But last night, I joined one of countrys greatest entertainers, and stood beside him, as a friend.
