EVIDENCE OF THE EXISTENCE OF GOD Charles Coats As I write this article, I am sitting in a hospital bed in Lansing, Michigan. This is my second time to be in the hospital in a week still working with the same condition. While being in the hospital is never pleasant, it has been very educational for me concerning how the human body works and how it tries to protect itself. Apparently due to pneumonia, fluid has been building up next to a lung which can cause some health issues, but my body has also begun to fight against the fluid building up. It did not have to be told I had a problem and no one had to wake it up. It automatically began to defend itself. Blood cells begin to fight any infection you might have and the body begins to try and isolate the fluid. When I contemplate the amazing human body, I could only think that no one in their right mind could deny the existence of God. How could this body have built up such a defense mechanism by the total accident known as evolution? How could the human body have survived if it had to wait millions of years to find a way to defend itself against infection, disease and accidents? Evolution has never been logical, but it is especially illogical when it comes to explaining the human body. Those who can better remember their biology classes can tell us how many bones make up the human body, but even if we cannot, we know that there are many bones of various sizes and functions. When we move from the skeleton, we then think about the tissues, cartilage, blood vessels and arteries, nerves, and innumerable number of cells in the body. The design of the human body demands a designer. It is too organized for it not to have had an organizer. One cannot honestly say that the human body is just a product of chance. No, the human body is one of the greatest evidences of the existence of God who created all things. God, of course, simply tells us that he created us and that we were designed to function immediately in this world (Gen. 1,2). The Psalmist would word it as any human would have to honestly express it – we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psa. 139:14).
