EXAMINATION TIPS There is no short cut to passing exams You have to study hard. 1. Plan: Prepare a study timetable that covers all the subjects. Allocate more time to difficult subject. Allot time for entertainment. You may take short breaks between subjects. 2. Environment: Select an environment conducive for study. Find a place that is quiet and relaxing for concentration. Never work on the desk facing a mirror on the wall. Your reflection from the mirror while studying can be distractive leading to lack of concentration. I have heard it said studying facing east or more accurately north east give you great positive energy. I have no evidence about this. It is better to study early in morning when the surroundings are silent for you to concentrate more. Concentration really counts when studying. Keep the books you don’t need away. You won’t be distracted by thinking the subjects you have to revise. 3. Posture: You can’t effectively (read/revise) while sitting or lying on bed or on the grass. Sit straight on your chair. Keep your spinal cord straight. Try to place your feet parallel to the ground. 4. Notes: Make notes while studying. The notes should not be descriptive make. It should be brief so that you can remember all points while doing revision. The notes should have formulae, figures and other important points. 5. Sleep: Sleep Eat and sleep well. It is advisable to sleep for at least six hours and not more than seven hours. Have enough sleep especially on the night of the exam. 6. Food: Do not fast on exam day. Be careful about the food items that you eat on exam days. Avoid fried food which contains fatty acid food, potatoes, chilly food. Take mala (curd), milk, honey, or chocolate with cocoa in it with it. 7. Handwriting: Write your exam answers neatly. In essay questions, underline the important points. First impression is the best impression. Answer the questions you know well, first. This will create a good impression on the marker. Though you may not write some last answers well, that won’t deduct your mark much. 8. Time: Manage your time well so that you can attend to all questions. If there is any question out of syllabus, you just attempt it. Usually full marks are awarded for such questions. 9. Cheating: Never cheat in exam as it may affect your marks or leading to disqualification. If you don’t know the answers don’t write anything. 10. Prayer: Pray well before the exam. Prayer frees your mind. It can give you a lot of energy and peace to your mind. And it is much important that you are confident about what you can and will always produce pleasant result. 11. Confidence: Free your mind of fear. Fear or hate of exams distracts your mind. Be confident. Confidence power victory. 12. After exams: Do not discuss question papers after exams. It won’t help you.
