EXCERPT 2 A ROUGH DRAFT: Just before the cool days of fall set in with the trees already showing their majestic crowns of red, orange and gold, the harvest moon showing big and beautiful, John Locus was born. When Elizabeth realized that she was going into labor, she had sent one of the women in her cabin to get John. He came immediately and stayed outside during the long difficult labor. Although her pregnancy had gone well, she had problems delivering the baby because she was built small. After fifteen hours, she delivered her son. She decided to name him John after his father. He was gorgeous to her eyes. He took the best attributes of both parents and combined them into something new and beautiful. Little John had Elizabeths European features with piercing turquoise blue eyes that was striking with his fathers coal black silky hair and a combination of both complexions. This gave him just enough of a tan that if no one knew the circumstances of his parentage he could pass for white. This child would become the very first born of the Locus/Lucas family to make them a true tri-racial people from henceforth. Because of this and the wife he would take someday, their offspring would be born into freedom and mixed forevermore.
