EXCITING INVESTMENT OF $247,980 IN BATTLEFORDS RIVER VALLEY CENTRE WILL BOOST RIVER VALLEY TOURISM The Battlefords River Valley Board (BRVB) and Battlefords Tourism and Convention Association announced an investment in the new Battlefords River Valley Visitor Centre today. The total investment is $247,960 and includes: • Upgrading of the building’s structures for winter usage: $95,093. • Interior alterations and upgrades: $68,175. • Breezeway alterations and creation of a vestibule: $84,692. When completed, the renovations will transform the visitor centre into a year-round interpretive and information service facility. The BRVB is investing $197,988 in the project. “The Battlefords River Valley Board has been making major investments in the River Valley over a number of years and from the very beginning it was the plan to have a centre in the valley,” said BRVB Chairperson Donna Challis. “Transforming the old nature centre into a river valley visitor centre and forming the partnership with Battlefords Tourism gives us the opportunity to expand the use of the valley by the community and visitors. This is extremely exciting. Since May, 2014, the visitor centre has been operated by Battlefords Tourism, who has also maintained its permanent office location in downtown North Battleford. Battlefords Tourism will now occupy the centre on a permanent basis and operate a year-round tourist information service. The move is expected to be complete by Jan. 31, 2015 and Battlefords Tourism will continue to operate the centre during the renovations. Battlefords Tourism is also investing $49,972 in the project. “The board of directors of Battlefords Tourism sees tremendous potential in the new visitor centre,” said Malcolm Anderson, chairperson of Battlefords Tourism. “The partnerships developed around this facility are strong and will enable us to enhance our marketing efforts with information and interpretive services.” Upgrade of the building’s structures for winter usage has already begun, and it is expected other renovations will begin in the coming days. The BVRB is a funding partnership between the Province of Saskatchewan, City of North Battleford, and Town of Battlefords. Its mandate is to ensure the maintenance and improvement of recreational infrastructure in the river valley. Battlefords Tourism is a non-profit member-based corporation funded by the City of North Battleford, Town of Battleford, and the Battlefords Hotels’ Association to market the Battlefords as a destination for tourism, conventions, events and business.
