EXCITING NEWS! Nutrition Therapy begins in April I am pleased to announce that an excellent local dietician, Ginger Cochran, MS, RDN, HFS-ACSM, is going to be available for consultations on Friday afternoons starting April 4th. Ginger grew up in Pismo Beach and graduated from Cal Poly with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition with a minor in psychology in 2008. She then earned a degree in Masters of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. Her Dietetic Internship was completed in 2013. Not only is she an expert in nutrition she is an American College of Sports Medicine – Health Fitness Specialist and a Certified Wellcoach. She has gained a wide range of experience through her training and over the last two years she has been working with my MDVIP colleague, Dr. Gregg Wolff, who just opened his MDVIP affiliated practice in Nipomo. I believe Ginger will help enhance my emphasis on the importance of sensible dietary habits and regular physical activity in order to feel your best and maintain a high quality of life. One benefit I am very excited about is a Medicare benefit called Intensive Behavioral Therapy (IBT) for Obesity. If you are a Medicare patient with a body mass index of >30 (BMI factors in height and weight), you are eligible for IBT for Obesity with Ginger. If you are eligible, there is no cost to you (there is no co-pay or deductible). IBT consists of weekly meetings with Ginger for 1 month and then meetings every other week for 5 months. If you are successful at losing 3kg (6.6lb) during the first 6 months, then you are eligible to continue monthly meetings with Ginger for another 6 months. I believe that sensible dietary habits are so important that for those of you who are not on Medicare or who have other non-obesity related Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) issues/questions (diabetes, Celiac Disease, etc.), Ginger will be available for consultations at no cost to you. Ginger’s initial focus will be on providing the IBT for Obesity Medicare benefit to those who are interested. I expect there will be a fairly high interest/demand for her services initially so if you are interested in meeting with Ginger, please call the office and we will take down your name and number and contact you as soon as Ginger has openings in her schedule. I hope you all get out to enjoy the views of our wonderful green hills. Be well, Dr. Hilty
