EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE JB MDL declares public health emergency JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. – In conjunction with Burlington and Ocean County public health officials, the joint base commander declared a public health emergency for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst today at approximately 10:24 a.m. Burlington County officials have confirmed cases of Bacterial Meningitis in the local communities. Installation medical officials are working with Burlington and Ocean County medical authorities to contain the infection. Officials are also in the process of establishing three Points of Distribution (PODs) throughout the joint base, as directed by county health officials. All Joint Base personnel (military, civilian, and contractors) and their dependents are encouraged to stay in place if at home, await direction from respective chains of command and avoid areas with large groups of people such as theaters, gyms, stores, etc. Anyone displaying the following symptoms should present to their local emergency rooms: fever, headache, neck stiffness, and other neurological symptoms.
