[EXERCISE OF THE MONTH JANUARY] Exercise: Body Squat The body squat is a lower body strengthening exercise working all the major muscles of the legs. The thighs are the primary muscles being engaged, along with the calves and hamstrings. How to perform the body squat: 1. Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart. Place your hands directly in front of you 2. Place pressure on the heel and the ball of the foot – not on the toes. 3. Begin the movement by slowly lowering your torso while keep a straight back and focus on pushing out your glutes. You should feel like you’re sitting back with your hips. 4. As you approach full depth you should feel your thighs, hamstrings and glutes stretching out. 5. As you reverse the movement and stand up – tighten your glutes to get maximum reaction of your muscles and focus on “driving” your hips forward. 6.
