EXHIBIT B : THE PETITION TO CLOSE IT DOWN IN PARIS HAS 15 000 SIGNATURES. HERE WE GO AGAIN, FROM PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO SEE THE WORK...: DEPROGRAMME THE HUMAN ZOO No, public money should not fund a human zoo! Petition addressed to the management of the cultural center 104 in Paris, the director of the Théâtre Gérard Philipe in Saint Denis and mayors of Paris and Saint Denis. As you know, the controversial exhibition Exhibit B is scheduled for presentation in the Theatre Gerard Philipe in November and at the Cultural Center 104 early December. The exhibition showcases chained blacks and degrading in different positions. An African woman, topless, in tribal costume is followed by a seated black woman chained neck ... Black extras are hired in each city where the show is presented, and spectators pay to visit one by one Blacks, who remain silent and immobile. Exposure refers to human zoos before the Second World War, when blacks and other exotic peoples were exhibited for the entertainment of whites in an even more racist than ours. We want to express our outrage at this event racist opposition. The show was canceled in London in September, following an anti-racism campaign that has received support from many organizations, including the PCS and UNITE, two of the largest British unions. The creator of the show, Brett Bailey, said that his intention is, presenting black extras chained or caged, to reflect on racism and the legacy of colonialism. It is already surprising that in mixed neighborhoods north of Paris, we invite the public to come multiethnic learn about racism from a white South African. This is all the more shocking that opportunities for blacks to present their work in prestigious cultural centers artists are extremely limited. The idea that a human zoo of its kind, open to the whole family (free for children under 15 years!) Can do reduce racism is ridiculous, and the show is an insult to those (a good of the neighborhoods in which is programmed exposure) that are obliged to understand racism because they suffer daily. Freedom of speech is not sufficient justification to support our cultural centers such horrors. We ask the center 104, and the Théâtre Gérard Philipe, both funded by public money, to deprogram this exhibition.
