EXPANDED POST PART 1: Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. - Matthew 7:21-23 | KJV (slightly rephrased for clarity) Does Jesus know you? Of course He knows everyone that has ever lived, so what does He mean here by I never knew you? Simply, it means He never had a relationship with them. Real relationship. Dont make the mistake of counting on your religious acts and good works to get you into Heaven — they will not! As Jesus says here, many will do that, even many who call Him Lord in this life, and they will never enter Heaven. Only a true relationship with Christ will bring about the new life and good works of faith that are pleasing to God! What is Gods Will mentioned in the verse above? This is Gods will — to have a true faith in Jesus. From that faith comes relationship (the knowing, abiding), and from that relationship will come the fruits of the Spirit and WORKS OF FAITH which are the only works that is good and pleasing to God. From that relationship will come the desire to abandon all sin, to follow God as best you can, not looking your perfection to save you but to Christ alone... desiring not only to be forgiven, but to be made Holy... not doing good works TO BE SAVED, but doing good works BECAUSE you have been SAVED (there is a difference between the two), because of the joy and life and relationship that you now share in Christ.
