EXPECT NO MORE FROM ANY LIBERATOR In life, every sane being has a goal. Everyone has a dream that he or she would love to achieve before leaving planet earth. That includes you the reader and myself. I personally have dreams, simple dreams that I believe I could fulfil by my 45th birthday. Inshallah. And when I make it big, I’d be doing nothing except to globetrot. With my loved ones, I would oftentimes fly from city to city for pleasure, fun. I would sightsee all the world’s ancient sites there are to see. This applies to our current leaders - the liberators, the men and women who made independence of South Sudan a success. When they rebelled against Khartoum government, they had the end result at the back of their heads - independence. Secession was their collective dream. Look at the epic and one-million-dollar photo in which future president Salva Kiir speaks to a white reporter; and at the background is a long line of Red Army trekking to somewhere. In it, the man is skeletal. Actually, he looks like a tree. That picture says a lot about what Kiir and his colleagues were doing. Though they didn’t know when, they knew they’d attain liberty. They had envisioned the independence. They never worried about pay. They never worried about food, clothes or cars. Endurance, determination and selflessness drove them - the SPLM. And then came 9 July, 2011. The day marks tangibility of what they had dreamt about – independence. They liberated South Sudanese from Islamic, arabic and racist government of Khartoum. The day also marks the end of their productiveness. They cannot do anything extra to move the country forward. The proof is how they’ve been handling the national (regional) affairs since 2005. How they present themselves too – the arrogance and all-knowing attitude. They took pleasure in destroying the nascent country; they encouraged tribalism, nepotism and sectionalism. Generally, they sent the baby country to Intensive Care Unit, ICU. They unsurprisingly ended up satiating personal wants and needs, leaving acute poverty, diseases and underdevelopment to eat citizens raw. They ignore their duties and frequently travel outside the country to satisfy pleasures and seek medical attentions for illnesses like flu and malaria. Why? Because development of the country was never part of or their dream. Macadamization was not one of their dreams. They never dreamt or thought of electrification. All the senior freedom fighters have held various positions and failed, terribly, and they know it. However, out of directionlessness, confusedness, pride and self-importance, they cannot relinquish their positions. They cannot edge out of the path to allow modern dreamers to digitize the country. After reading a fiery article written by a youth, a freedom fighter scratches his or her head and asks a comrade what the youth are talking about: “Why are they complaining even when we have liberated them? What do they mean ‘tarred roads’? President Salva Kiir is done; he is retarded. He has no more energy left to lift the country higher because he has achieved his goal. Dr. Riek Machar and his thoughts are out-of-date. His current politics and ideologies are so 1990ish. He should just be a village head chief somewhere in his home state. Pagan Amum does not matter. Deng Alor is an alien. Nhial Deng Nhial is an otiose citizen. Don’t even think about Rebeca Nyandeng Chol, Kuol Manyang, Dr. Majak de Ago’ot and that arrogant man named Michael Makuei Lueth. They’re simply devoid of development brains. They’re just sectional statuettes. Vice President James Wani Igga is a cartoon. He can’t do more except to tell us jokes. He should go global with his funny self. Somebody please introduce him to P Diddy, the head of Bad Boy Comedy. Dr. Lam Akol (aka Mr Whimsical as Kuir Ë Garang describes him), Dr Adwok Nyaba, Taban Deng Gai and all the other unmentioned freedom fighters do not have what it takes to take the young nation to the next level. They’ve accomplished their goal – independence. If it wasn’t for superbia, they would all quit but leave behind a small pool of intellectual freedom fighters to help young and technocratic people actualize Dr John Garang’s vision – Taking Towns to the People.
