EXPLOSIVE BREAKING NEWS: I am reliably informed by an impeccable source that the opposition has received a commitment from a high ranking PPP parliamentarian and sitting member of the Donald Ramotar Cabinet that he will support and vote for the AFC piloted No Confidence Motion against the government. It is understood that this parliamentarian has also advised the opposition that he will secure another vote for the NCM from the PPP benches in parliament. The PPP parliamentarian has apparently accepted that the PPP will not win the next elections whenever they are called and as such is seeking to align with the AFC/APNU in an effort to be part of the anticipated coalition government. The PPP parliamentarian, is said to be willing to throw his support behind the NCM as a demonstration of his commitment to the opposition. Should this be done it would be expected that he would immediately resign as a member of Cabinet but remain as a Parliamentarian unless withdrawn by the PPP. It is further understood that this information is known to President Ramotar hence his insistence on announcing that he will not allow his government to face the NCM in Parliament and will instead prorogue or dissolve parliament before the NCM motion is debated and voted on. The joint opposition controls a one seat majority in Parliament and does not need PPP votes for the NCM to be approved but a vote from a high ranking PPP member against his own government will effectively seal the fate of and spell doom for the PPP government which has been consistently losing support at the ballot box in recent elections. The PPP parliamentarian who has committed support to the NCM is said to have been declared persona non grata at Freedom House and no longer attends meetings there. The member attends Cabinet Meetings but does not make any significant contribution. While I have not been told specifically who the PPP parliamentarian is, my speculative instincts lead me to believe that Minister of Natural Resources Robert Persaud would have to be considered as possibly the person who could cross the floor. It is well known that his inews media outfit has been heavily critical of the government and certain PPP Cabinet members, a stark departure from the manner in which the PPP has been known to operate for decades. My information is that he has had a major falling out with movers and shakers in the party and has been ostracized. Persaud has been hinting on social media at taking a “political sabbatical” which he has repeatedly mentioned on facebook. More as this story develops…
