EXPO TAKES A LICKING AND KEEPS ON TICKING On October 1st, Expo 67 entered its last month undaunted by the Montreal Transport Commission strike. By 08:30 such a mass of people pressed at the main gates at Place dAccueil that officials opened the turnstiles 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Radio stations continued to help shuttle visitors from downtown Montreal to he entrances by persuading motorists to donate their time to help the Exhibition. All main roads leading to Expo became slow-moving rivers of traffic as thousands of visitors and locals head for the car parks. The special CN train service shuttled 2,000 persons every half hour to the rear of the Autostade from Central Station. After a week-long courtesy visit, the Danish Training sailboat, Danmarka, left the Mark-Drouin Quay full sail, to the delight of thousands of spectators. At the Youth Pavilion, the Cinema de Minuit inaugurated the Mexican cinema week. Late afternoon, Steve Gilette sang at the dancing Café, followed by The Gap with psychedelic music. Belarus artists gave a concert at the Pavilion of the USSR. From October 1st and until the 15th, the Auditorium Du Pont with the National Film Board and the Canadian Cinémathèque sponsored a retrospective of Canadian films.
