Fabric Softeners leave a film on the lint screen that can lead to problems with your dryer. This film blocks the air flow, which means the dryer has to use more energy and the heating unit is more likely to burn out sooner. Once a month you should remove your lint screen in your dryer and clean it off using a tooth brush, mild dish soap, and hot water. In some cases you may have to soak your lint screen in hot soapy water first. A way to test this theory is to remove your lint screen and put it under running water. If the water pools on top of the lint screen you know you have build-up on there. The water should run right through the screen.
