EXTRAS CASTING CALL for VCA Student Film Actor/s Wanted: many Roles: Theatre audience Project Title: Act I Paid or Unpaid: Unpaid, light refreshments will be provided Male/Female: Both Age group: Any Date/s: Wednesday November 19th Location/s: Hawthorn Arts Centre Notes: Act I: An Ongoing Ceremony in the Darkness of the Movie Theatre Based on the 1947 play The Maids by Jean Genet Act I opens in an elaborately decorated 19th century bedroom. Sisters Edith and Celeste upon finding the room empty of their mistress take pleasure in devising her violent end. Both maids don’t hesitate to break the fourth wall as they roleplay their plan. Act I then extends well beyond the world of the Maids. You, the audience member, are dislocated from the spatial and temporal context of the bedroom as the P.O.V. frame begins to decrease in size. Through a prolonged tracking sequence we enter what appears to be a non-descript lounge room setting, revealing the maids scene being played on a television set. This sequence continues to reveal the lounge room is in fact a set on a theatre stage. Lingering here we crane over a full audience seated in a large auditorium. Please PM me if youre interested!
