EYE hope you dont mind Phil Vance Phil Vance: Cheri, have you ever gone out drinking with a black person and gotten rowdy and had them ask you to tone it down cause they didnt want to get in trouble? I have and it shocked me that my friend could be worried about his own safety based upon MY actions. It made me realize that blacks are treated with a much harsher set of standards than the rest of us. (proven statistically but personal experience trumps abstract concepts) I dont believe Mike Brown was killed for stealing cigars, I believe he was killed for being black. Have I not been clear about that? Darren Wilson was in his car, the same place youre told to go if you encounter a bear. There is no way in hell you can tell me that Wilsons only course of action was to shoot an UNARMED kid (I dont care if he was built like a fridge, 18 year olds are stupid and make bad decisions every single day) to death. Wilson was scared and that fear is based in years of racism and the stereotyping of the black community. THIS is why people are pissed and your inability to understand this speaks VOLUMES about what is wrong with this country. As for the thug labels I see some of you throwing around, Ill remind you all that during the Vietnam war people would label the Vietnamese as gooks in order to dehumanize them. I have a hard time seeing how this is any different. Proof to me that going to church doesnt make you a good person. Bringing up the murder of other people by police does not negate the nature of this incident and in fact speaks to the changing nature of our police force and the fact that more and more of us are being killed by those who vowed to serve and protect. Small towns like my own are being armed with tanks in order to serve warrents and make drug busts. Something is wrong with this picture and those of you who think the law is always right are moral cowards who dont have the balls to question authority or stand up in the face of injustice. Mark Twain once said that laws control the lesser man, right conduct controls the greater one.
