Each and every community has them — heroes! Whether it is the Resident who asks everyone how they are, the staff member who is ready with a smile at all times, the volunteer who comes in without fail, and the family member who donates their time to the community, heroes are among us each and every day. Celebrate your community’s heroes by picking several “Happiness Heroes” every day throughout the week. These “Happiness Heroes” are individuals who have made a difference in the lives of others. So today we thank not only those who have served our country, those who have saved a family from a burning building, or the person who was there for a friend durning the loss of a family member. Here at Autumn View Gardens we too are so grateful for our many “heroes”. Mary Ellen, a volunteer, is here for the Staff and the Residents almost everyday. You will find her busy collecting the recycling, helping the Residents vote for employee of the month/year, leading the bridge club, or leading services for St. Alban Roe. Herb and Mary Helen, who come in on Sundays and holidays to play bingo. The Residents love the loud booming voice the Herb brings to bingo. But it isn’t just volunteers that are heroes to us at Autumn View Gardens, it is our Staff too! Gina Miller, our physical therapist, has been such a tremendous help in getting our Residents more active. Working with Gina, we now have over 8 exercise classes each week. She is here in the mornings leading tai chi or the arthritis class, in the afternoon she is leading the grooving with Gina or strength and stretch. She has been such an asset in on lunch outings. She is so very helpful getting those off/on the bus, on/off a horse at the carousel, or help leading a hand when someone looses balance. Not only does she help us, but she has her regular patients she much work with too. Ryan, our front office manager, he has his hands in so many duties at AVG. Being there when a Resident needs help understanding their statements, filling in for the marketing office, answering phone calls or just passing the mail. You will seldom he him frazzled, but you will always he him helping someone. If you would like to acknowledge a staff member for all their “wonderfulness” you will find a form on the second floor. Star employee sheets are a way for you to let us know who is going above and beyond in making your day at AVG so wonderful. Gina, Herb, Mary Helen, and Mary Ellen, I am forever grateful for all you have done for your help. ~Malissa
