For those of you who do not know... Joliet Area Community Hospice is a non for profit organization providing end of life care to Joliet and a roughly 50 mile radius of surrounding communities. With an emphasis on comfort Hospice is generally regarded as merely for those with cancer yet that is a misconception. ALS, Parkinsons, End Stage Dementia, COPD, MS, CHF are just a few of the illnesses for which one can be certified under Medicare/Medicaid guidelines for a terminal illness. Pain control/ symptom management is merely one facet of the multi disciplined team approach taken.Certified Nursing Assistants, Social services, Spiritual caregivers, massage, music, art, and pet therapy compliment the top notch medical care that is provided. Joliet Area Community Hospice is proud to be the site of the first freestanding Hospice Home in the state, offering a 16 bed facility providing inpatient symptom management and respite care for the terminally ill. All services are provided in the setting which patient and families find most comfortable and manageable whether it is thier home, a nursing home, or a houseboat. Bereavement support is available to families and the community as well. Specialized care for Pediatric patients with life limiting illnesses as well as Palliative consulting is also available. Caring, comfort and compassion is abundant.
