Each child with a disability, is physically or mentally weak. There is no doubt about it. As much as you deny, you can never outwit that truth; You may use euphemisms, and may also be compassionately empathetic. But the truth is that - a weakness is a weakness. A disability, at the end of the day, is a physical inability to perform at a certain level. However, having acknowledged that fact, one must also know another fact. Each child with a disability possesses a spirit within her. That spirit does not know what she is not capable of. That spirit yearns to aspire, soar and dream beyond her inabilities. The body is disabled, but the spirit is not. Atleast not yet. And so, as parents, community & country, we face a challenge to look beyond physical disabilities and encourage the childs spirit within. And it is in this challenge, we mostly fail. We see the disability, judge the inability and give our hearts kindness. But, we need to see the childs spirit, judge our capabilities to encourage her and give our every humanity to strengthen that spirit. It is only when we do so, we can do true justice to another life. Else, we only add our negative biases to the already present disability in the child. We only add misery, in the name of reality.. After all, like beauty, i believe, even disability is in the eyes of the beholder.. #DisabilityTalks
