Each day I try to read a few bible articles or a chapter in a book - TopicsExpress

Each day I try to read a few bible articles or a chapter in a book about the Bible or Christian living along with my bible study. I dont substitute it for study of the Bible, but read it along with my regular bible reading. Today I was reading a chapter from Gods Woman by Brother C.R. Nichol and came across this quote that I believe in wholeheartedly. When they {parents} do not teach their children to be workers they make a mistake which will certainly rebound on them. It seems to be the ambitions of some fond mothers in these modern times {I chuckled at this... the copyright is 1938, but it does still apply today!} to rear their sons in idleness, and school their daughters for a castle of indolence~that they toil not, neither do they spin. It has been said that he who does not teach his son a trade makes him a thief. And it may be said with confidence that she who does not teach her daughter to work, to do things useful, is thrusting on society a parasite, defies the law of Jehovah, and is scheduled for grief. This Godly advice goes hand in hand with my dear grandmas most famous, and most quoted parenting tip, Nobody likes a brat. That was the sum total of her parenting advice, and it was/is superb and so true. I love children! They bring me so much joy, whether they are mine or someone elses...but me~oh~my~good~gravy~and~hot~mashed~potatoes!...I am seeing more and more big kiddos with NO WORK ETHIC at all. Kiddos that have not been given chores, or if given some, have not been taught and expected to do those chores WELL. Kiddos whose parents have not gradually added MORE responsibilities, NOT just more privileges as they get older, because they have proven themselves responsible and diligent, NOT just because they have had another birthday. Im seeing Kids that HATE to work , when work is going to be the biggest part of their life until our LORD returns, or they croak. Weve tried {ahem...cough, cough...though I dont always remember to do all of my own work cheerfully.} to instill in our kiddos a cheerful attitude when working because its something we will ALWAYS have to do, so we may as well be happy and pleasant in doing it. :) We TRULY are not doing our children favors when we clean up after them and do everything for them. Show. Tell. Do. Is the best way. Show them how to conquer/do a job by demonstrating it thoroughly and well yourself. Once they get it, tell them to do it and WATCH them, making sure theyve mastered it. Once they have, then they are responsible for doing it, and you DO NOT take that job back once they have it down. Obviously this is how your start with littles and they progress from there...but if you havent started yet, its not too late! That all being said their are A LOT of good big kiddos out there...and a LOT of good parents too...some may have just gotten a tink bit de~railed...and really a house full of diligent folk is a happy home! Lets build strong families with strong and cheerful workers in Gods Kingdom and in society! {Eek, I kinda sound like a cheerleader! WE CAN DO IT!!! Well, we can!} It really is true that idle hands do the work of the devil...besides they make for some disaster bedrooms ta boot! And Gods word clearly says, Let him that works, eat. His plan always is the best.
