Each day at VBS we have taken up offerings to go to the Bridge Project. The Bridge Project is an outreach ministry to the East Side neighborhood of Asheboro, NC. Everything that they do is about identifying themselves with the people of that community and creating space for a spark of hope. How do they do this? They take kids to church with them and share a meal with them afterwards. They take these same kids to camp each summer. They read Bible stories to the children at the local Boys & Girls Club. They strive to be open to going wherever their people are. The offering taken up is a competition between the boys and the girls. Whomever offers the most money for the week wins the grand prize! This year whichever team wins gets to take part in turning either Pastor Wyatt or myself into a giant ice cream sundae with all the toppings! (By the way some of the kids have already nicknamed him Pastor Ice Cream Sundae, my chances of safety are looking good!)
