Each of the Sundays between Christmas and Ash Wednesday are connected by the singular theme of God’s Revelation, the dramatic Epiphany moment of a star to follow, as well as the commonplace Epiphany moment of a relationship to discover. In each of these, and so many other grand and everyday moments, God gives us a piece of the puzzle, the part of God that we need where we are and as we are in life. That is why Epiphany may just be the most important of the seasons of the Church year. Today we turn away from the Magi, for a moment, and turn to those who were to become disciples; we turn away from the brilliant scholars who got so wrapped up in their knowledge that they lost their way and caused great damage, and we turn toward the fishermen and tax collectors who became the tools of heaven in establishing God’s colony on earth. And it starts with two followers of John the Baptist what are apparently stalking Jesus, until he turns on them and says, “What are you looking for?” A great question, from God to us each Sunday morning, isn’t it? A great question, from God to us each morning, for that matter, isn’t it? And how do we answer that great question? “What are you looking for?” - Excerpt from sermon, 1/19/14
