Each time I read Kenyan the paper and our politicians actions on diverse political, social issues or governance, I get confused. In deed, I am disturbed by President Uhuru stand on pay-cuts. I am not an economist but I know a countrys economical woes cannot be solved by knee-jerks temporary solutions and by few high-placed persons having pay-cuts. Cost-saving needs sound fiscal policy based on thrift and waste cuts; an austerity measure across board not merely 20% cut.The president also cannot possible compel everyone else to take 20% pay-cut when he earns more than everyone else. Everyone know he is among the richest president in African too. He could take 30% cut, DP 20%, cabinet secretaries 10% etc. I am also very uncomfortable with his blunt dictatorial directives bordering blackmail and I quote“Those who resist can go to court and even if they win, it is cheaper to pay them off and get other people. So they should not think they are going to take us back,” the President affirmed. This is intimidation, dictatorial tendency. I am afraid Kenya is almost going the failed state ways given the poor government performance with grinding poverty almost swallowing the small people as sharks feasting on all. Mr. President, what do you do when they get the 20% pay-cut but on the other hand eat with the left hand through overseas travel, allowances and other dubious means....what do you do Mr. President? A countrys down-nose can best be seen when high food prices and expensive life, high inflation, exorbitant food-prices and poor governance, corruption creeps. Mr. President, I expected you to be better. If Uhuru recall Muthiora to tap on his experience, why cant he tap on the expertise of (recall him on consultancy) to help us put our economic status in order. Kenya needs to be saved from itself.... thats the way hyena acts, eats itself and young.
