Each weekend of SunTrust Zoo Lights, were spotlighting different animals from the Memphis AAZK Enrichment Tree. This weekends featured animals are our orangutans. From the keepers: We have 3 Sumatran Orangutans: Chickie, Tomabak, and Jahe. Debbie the siamang lives with them in Primate Canyon, and is an honorary orangutan. Orangs are very intelligent. They love to figure things out and take things apart. They are also very artistic and love to paint. For Christmas, the would love any heavy duty Kong toys or dog puzzle feeders, they also like scents, spices, a Home Depot card (for the keepers to buy PVC to make toys), Hollywood or petco card, non-toxic paints, chalk, paint brushes, bucket, tubs, kiddie pool, and play sand. Orangs at a lot of zoos also love to play with iPads. The keepers hold them outside of the mesh and the orangs use their fingers to play games, or play music, or draw. Its very interesting to see what these amazing amazing animals figure out.
