Eagles defeat Ghana in Transformation Cup Nigeria ‘B’ team defeated Ghana U23s 1-0 in a friendly to open the brand-new Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo on Friday. Home boy Emem Eduok scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute when he headed in Solomon Kwambes cross from the right, becoming the first player to score on that pitch. Two minutes later, Rangers striker Osaguona Ighodalo failed to hit the target as he headed wide Eduoks cross. Nigeria goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim almost gifted Ghana a goal when he fumbled a ball. Ghana striker Isaac Osae was thorn in the flesh of the Eagles defence, but was shut out by Kano Pillars star Umar Zango. Just two minutes into the second half, Isaac Osae fired wide from a position he should have tested Agbim in goal for Nigeria. Nigeria league top scorer Mfon Udoh, who was a second-half substitute, hit the side netting in the 69th minute. Four minutes later, Udohs cross failed to get connection. In the 77th minute, Eduok fired at goal but Richard Ofori in goal for Ghana made a save. Udoh was denied a goal in the 80th minute when his superb effort off Eduoks cross came off the cross bar. David Opokus effort in the 82nd minute missed not by much and soon after, Eduoks effort at goal from 20 yards sailed over the bar in the 86th minute. Ghanas Yamoah Richard got the marching order from referee Ferdinand Udoh in the 88th minute due to an horror tackle on substitute Tony Edjomariegwe. Mensah Emmanuel then made a goal line clearance off Kingsley Sokaris powerful drive in the 90+3 minutes to deny Eagles the second goal on the night.
