Eagles in cruise control – Keshi June 7, 2013 | Sports The Super Eagles are in course to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, coach Stephen Keshi has said. The African champions proved their mettle midweek at the Arap Moi International Stadium in Nairobi, when they defeated the Harambee Stars of Kenya 1-0. The victory stretches Nigeria’s lead in Group F to eight points, two more than second placed Malawi, who were held to goalless draw in Blantyre by Namibia. “I have always maintained that we are going to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. We have a mandate to deliver this target to Nigerians and I thank God that my players understand this too. We are on course to achieve our mandate. Our destiny is now in our hands and I believe that these Eagles will fly to Brazil”, Keshi told reporters after the match at the Arap Moi Stadium. Moscow-based striker, Ahmed Musa, who had a poor outing at the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, got the winning goal for the Eagles in the 85st minute. Musa, who recently won the double in Russia with his club got his name flying flyingHis goal came at a time that it appeared like the Eagles were going to play another draw with the Kenyans, who had played a 1-1 draw with the Nigerians in the reverse fixture held on March 23 at the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar. With two round of matches left to be played in the group, Nigeria will be high in spirit as they travel to the Sam- Nujoma-Stadium to play Namibia on June 12. A win in Windkoek will virtually seal Nigeria’s passage to the last round, which see them playing one of the group winners in a two-legged final round to determine which team qualify for the eagerly anticipated World Cup in Brazil. And speaking moments after the game, Keshi said that he was always confident that his players were going to get job done in Kenya, adding that they now have their destiny firmly in their hands now.
