Eagles should do whatever it takes to get Marcus Mariota, Randall Cunningham says By Matt Lombardo | For NJ Advance Media January 16, 2015 at 11:15 AM After Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota officially declared for the NFL Draft, the floodgates are now officially wide open for speculation on what the Eagles might or might not do to ensure a reunion with head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly of course recruited the Heisman trophy winning quarterback to Oregon and the Eagles hold the 20th pick in Aprils NFL Draft which means a trade, perhaps of Draconian proportions, would be required to move high enough to draft Mariota. Former Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham says Kelly -- who is now in charge of all things football personnel at One Novacare Way -- should do whatever it takes to get his hands on Mariota. Whatever team gets him is going to be great. Id love to see him land in Philadelphia, Cunningham told CSN Philly on Thursday. I think hes going to do great. And whatever it takes -- nothing against (Mark) Sanchez and the other quarterbacks there, but if somehow, someway Chip (Kelly) gets his boy there, whether through trade or whatever it takes and they protect him, he is the kind of leader you want in Philadelphia. He is not a talker, hes not going to get in trouble or cause problems. Hes going to create unity. There has been some skepticism of late among draft experts and personnel evaluators alike that Mariota is simply a system quarterback who benefited from playing in Oregons uptempo scheme. That is a criticism Cunningham isnt concerned about. Thats a great thing. If hes being talked about, he must be doing something right, Cunningham said. He has a lot of value. If you saw what happened when he got hurt, his offensive linemen got emotional and took personal fouls because they loved their quarterback so much, Cunningham said. They love Marcus. When you look up in the stands and see his parents, theyre not drinking beer and acting crazy. Theyre respectable people and thats what youre going to get out of a kid like that. It seems everyone has an opinion on whether or not the Eagles should pull the trigger on a trade that would net Mariota, but it is clear which camp Cunningham resides in. Hes all in on Mariota.
