Earlier in the week, on one of the unseasonably warm days weve been enjoying (60s in January) I took a drive to Barnsdall, Oklahoma, not quite an hour north of Tulsa. Barnsdall is perhaps most well known in these parts for the oil well in the middle of one of its downtown streets, but I discovered something just as intriguing right there on Highway 11 on the edge of town--a fabulous collection of filling station artifacts in, on, and around a vintage filling station. Jacks Place is obviously owned by the folks who live in the house next door as the collection flows between the two properties and the houses back yard is filled with rows of neatly arranged large oil company signs. Though it looked welcoming (and tempting) I didnt go through the gate as clearly this is also someones actual back yard. FYI Barnsdall, OKs original name was Bigheart.
