Earlier this evening, I avoided -- by about three seconds -- becoming physically involved in a high-speed chase that ended in a rollover crash by the suspect. I am still processing the sequence of events -- the car that sped across four lanes of Highway 378 in front of me from a side road, the crash (driver-side down) in the grass off the road, the Lexington County deputys car that followed in full pursuit, the deputy who jumped out gun pointed at the suspects vehicle. There were a number of cars on this stretch of highway shortly after 5:30 p.m., and I am grateful that no innocent person was involved. The suspect sped between my car and a car just ahead of me. Three long seconds.
