Earlier this week, I definitely had a case of the Mondays. Monday - TopicsExpress

Earlier this week, I definitely had a case of the Mondays. Monday morning, I woke up at my usual time to get ready for work and heard a loud hissing noise. In a way, it sounded like something broke inside my home. I proceeded to get up and look around. I checked the basement because it sounded like something had possibly broken. I could not see anything but I could still hear the noise. I went back upstairs and followed the noise. As I entered my sunroom room, it got louder. I opened the back door and there was a loud, hissing noise. I immediately knew it was THE GAS LINE. I quickly called the Emergency # for Black Hills Energy. The lady stated that she would send someone out right away. She also told me not to go near it and not to let anyone start a car. I proceeded to get ready for work while waiting for the gas company to show up. I called my husband who was out of town when suddenly there was a knock at the door. There were two of our local fire men wearing gas masks telling me to evacuate immediately on foot. They told me to walk across the highway and there would be a rescue squad waiting for me. As I exited my home there were neighbors coming out of their homes, we all walked in the freezing cold on the icy road to cross the highway and wait. While in the squad, we all made the best of it and joked about not wanting the television cameras to interview us since we had just gotten out of the shower with no makeup on and hair undone. I was so impressed on how fast the fire department was and then to top it off, they took all of us back to the fire station. They brought in coffee & donuts for us. Soon, they said we could return to our homes. They explained that they had to turn off my gas and I would be without heat for the day. I am so thankful that I had the knowledge and training to know what to do. It’s “BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!” If something would have happened to the house, it would have been tragic but at least I could have slept a little easier knowing that I had homeowners insurance.
