Earlier this week I read an article about a homeless woman jailed after leaving her children in the car during a job interview, immediately my heart broke. There was so much that was wrong with that story. Forget for a moment that, yes, it is very dangerous to leave a toddler and a baby in a closed car. Now instead picture a women with two children facing the possibility of living out of her car during an Arizona summer. Imagine having to sit and concentrate through this interview, because your children are sitting out there and their future depends on you getting this job. Then having to return to your car only to be arrested, and have your children taken away. Now all hope for getting the job is gone, you face the possibility of jail time and losing custody of your children. Rock bottom. Now a judge is granting probation for du Pont heir after he raped his three year old daughter, (and confessed to molesting his 18 month son) because ‘he would not fare well’ in prison. This is disgusting. Excuse me the last time I checked prison wasnt a place were one was expected to fare well. Evidently our criminal justice system favors mercy for the rich. Even sick, twisted, perverts who rape their daughters. This MONSTER deserves to rot in prison! Now compare this to Shanesha Taylor, sitting in jail for leaving her kids in her car while she interviewed for a job. Whats the difference, besides white, male and well-off? Prison for the poor, and a slap on the wrist for the super wealthy. When you see stuff like this happening, thats how you KNOW that the rule of law no longer applies to those with money.
