Earlier this week Laura Craig Cloud from American Rivers joined the MWA team to help assess one section of our restoration at Finesville, using a method called a Wolman pebble count. We know that the composition of the stream bed is important for good fish habitat, and we know that steep streams that have beds of boulders and gravel behave differently than low gradient streams that have sandy or silty bottoms. Pebble counts are helping us understand how the stream in Finesville has changed after restoration. It was easy to learn the technique and being in the cool river on a hot day helped the work go quickly. Thanks to Laura and our volunteer team: Dillon George, Rich Cervino, Amy Battise and her daughter Pamela, and Harry Zickler for a great job!
