Earlier this week detectives in Salford launched an investigation into a report of child abduction. On Friday the 18 July 2014 at about 2.15pm, it was reported that a man had momentarily abducted a three-year-old girl at a block of flats on Egerton Street in Patricroft before being challenged. A thorough investigation has now been carried out which has established the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Detective Inspector Ben Hart from Salford division, said: “We took this report extremely seriously and have quickly identified all the parties involved. “We have spoken to witnesses, viewed CCTV and made extensive enquiries to verify what has taken place. We are now happy that this was a misunderstanding. “From what the three-year-old child’s mum saw she was right to be concerned and right to report this to the police. “The child momentarily moved from the area where she was playing and the man described saw her running towards the road and was bringing her back to where she had come from. “We have had a great response from the community and I would like to thank them for their help and support over the last few days. It is this help that has allowed us to establish the full sequence of events so quickly. “Be reassured this was the right call for the right reason and based on the facts known initially, the policing response was entirely appropriate given the potential risks. “We understand that reports such as this cause great concern and we would like to reassure the community that thankfully, nobody has been at risk and there is no ongoing threat.”
