Earlier this year as I started feeling better and had hope for - TopicsExpress

Earlier this year as I started feeling better and had hope for continued improvement in my health, I began to think about planning a summer that would be equal to the time; my stage of survival, a son about to enter college, a daughter advancing in junior high, a wife who has held us all together. I thought about places I havent seen like the Grand Canyon or Glacier National Park but I am not ready for airplanes and no one but me was willing to take a long road trip. So we settled for a June business trip to Savannah, GA, a July wedding in Jackson, MS and a vacation in Branson; Really? Although location is important, your companions and your activities are what make memorable summers. So for the vacation plan you reach back to what you have enjoyed in the past; a lake trip with special friends (the kind that come to see you when you are in the valley of death, the ones who you loved through their own trials and have vacationed with you many times) then you throw in a beautiful location (Table Rock Lake) and then you do things beyond just getting on the lake every day. You hire a fishing guide and catch more trout than you ever thought possible then you prove the value of the guide when you can hardly catch a trout on your own while you send the kids zip lining and the ladies shopping. You play golf in a different location with your son. You get on a wake board again, watch your son do the same after knee surgery and almost get your daughter up and riding. You have dinner and spend time with more friends from long ago and get to know one of their twins who survived premature birth. You take your son & daughter and your friends to shoot shotguns. It is hard to see the summer end and even harder to think about getting back to work, school, watch your son go off to college and know the next visit to MD Anderson is just a few weeks away. But, this vacation accomplished exactly what I wanted, a family memory that will endure all of our lifetimes. Even better the entire summer was special as we got to see Savannah for the first time and got to share the wedding, in a special place, of other special friends (the kind that love you as you watch a young wifes life fade away, help you start a new life and come hold your hand while you have a transplant) from our past. We know not what the future may hold but we know who holds the future. Thanks to all you Facebook friends who endure/like my many posts and photos. We all waste a lot of time here but Facebook was a lifeline for me while in Houston and continues to keep me socially attached. May God bless each of you.
