Earlier this year somebody asked me if I’d be interested in running for ACHD Commissioner. Without hesitation, I told them... “There is not freaking way I would want that job!” I love my current job, because I feel like I have the ability to create real change in my community. I’ve seen Boise transform into a better place to bicycle before my eyes. And since I believe bicycles are an empowering tool that can create opportunities for social change, Ive seen Boise become a better place to live for everyone. In the last couple of years I’ve gotten more involved with the political side of things, mostly because I need help. I have a vision for my organization, the nonprofit sector, and all of Boise and I want to work with people who share a similar vision... people who will make my job easier. And because others have seen the impact I’ve made with my team, the people who make decisions up top have started to listen and have started to ask for help. There’s no freaking way I would want to be running for ACHD Commissioner right now, because I don’t have the experience to create the kind of change that’s needed to fix that broken system. Ive met or talked with almost every candidate, and there were a few people I really liked... good people. All asked for my personal endorsement and help with getting the support of the bicycling community. When it came down to it, there was only one candidate who I believed had what it would take to make the changes ACHD leadership so desperately needs. One of the last things you will see on the ballot tomorrow is ACHD Commissioner, and if you live in District 3, there will be 6 people to chose from. Paul Woods for ACHD has what it takes to change the environment at ACHD, he shares my vision of a county with safe and sustainable streets for ALL types of road users, and that means stronger dynamic communities, and that means...HE GETS MY VOTE. And for heavens sake, how can you not vote for Holli Woodings tomorrow? She has to win!
