Earlier today, Eliza became very sick, very fast. Her heart rate, which was already high, began climbing higher and higher, stopping around 230 bpm. She spiked a fever that was over 103 degrees farenheight. She was fairly lethargic, and not responding well to the doctors (didnt cry or move when they put a bag of ice on her for instance). After getting an EKG to make sure her heart was working right (it is), they gave Eliza some extra fluids and wheeled her over to the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). Her diaper had blood and tissue in it. She is now getting a platelet infusion for that, since her platelets have been steadily dropping and she is having some bleeding issues in her gut. They are keeping fluids going in her, and giving her albumin to help her vessels hold onto the fluids and not leak them out. Since this all started spiraling out of control, her heart rate has now come down into the 150s, and her temperature is slowly trending downwards as well (102 degrees farenheight last we checked). Eliza is also responding appropriately again. She cries when shes disturbed or sad, and smiles when happy. So far, they are treating this is a septic shock episode, putting her on vancomycin for a broad coverage antibiotic. Eliza continues to keep her oxygen saturation in a decent range, satting between 92 and 95%. Now that shes sleeping, shes back to dropping a little low, so we are giving a little bit of oxygen support. We appreciate the prayers offered up for Eliza and our family, and ask that they continue while we try to get this girl better!
