Earlier today, I called my Aunty looking for my baby cuz to invite him to come sit in my college class in Plainfield. This time next year he will be a college freshman. I thought the exposure would be good for him. My 17-Year-Old Tay-jaughn Hope cuz almost had me in tears because of how well and comfortable he was sitting in a Socratic Seminar w/ my students whose ages average between 19-30. The seminar topics: Emmett Till & Mike Brown. He shocked the hell out of me when he started verbally citing this history about how long Mississippi had a masa/slavery mentality ...as he was educating about demographics they were clueless about. I asked the class - did they know why I chose these topics? My cuz was the first to raise him hand to rant about U.S. race relations and the importance of using classroom spaces to talk about such hard topics. Tana Owens, This is when I started packing up my shit cuz I was amazingly done! Lol After class I kept one of my males to speak to him about his no home works n laziness. So I asked cuz to explain to him what he saw as issues within him and other students. I was in awe as he told this dude it appeared that too many students are not taking their education serious, how he respects his teachers holding him accountable n how he was confused about why theyre in college etc. when students dont participate in class or do homework. I already knew he was an erudite student, but his critical thinking skills at 17 are both phenomenal and logical as hell...
