Earlier today, we had a trivia post about a photo. It depicts the large funeral held for the 6 victims of the bloody Kelayres Massacre in November, 1934-the eve of a hotly contested election. This brutal act rocked the area from Schuylkill and Luzerne Counties to Harrisburg, where it figured into a decisive political defeat of the Republican party. The Bruno family, who had a total and corrupt grip on the small town of Kelayres, Pennsylvania, ambushed Democrats marching in a political rally, and injured countless other men, women and children. The pictures show the funeral, a victim Frank Fiorella, and Jennie McAloose who was shot but survived, scenes of the survivors, and pictures of the assassins and the County Courthouse in Pottsville.
