Earlier today we learned Jeff Jeff Carman died Dec.31 after a valiant battle with cancer. We met over 40 years ago as freshman at Iowa State and Marching band. As much as he was a deep introspective and philosophical thinker, he also laughed easily and could be a goofball with the rest of us. He loved his family,his dog and his alma mater. So loyal. 25 years go he woke in the middle of the night and all alone, drove his red sports car non stop from Des Moines to Chicago so he could make it to Shelleys funeral. We spoke at the church he didnt want to make a big deal of his efforts, saying simply, Band friends are my family. You know me well enough to know that. This is what we do.What a sweet funny big hearted gentle man who brought life to any party. Rest in peace friend. We will honor your memory at every Alumni Band Reunion because whether or not you were with us in person you are always with us in spirit. You are a big part building bonds of band.you are family!
