Earlier tonight a settler child, from the illegal settlement in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of occupied Al-Khalil (Hebron), pepper sprayed a Palestinian child in his eyes. Seven Palestinian children were playing with marbles in the street outside their houses when several settler children from the nearby illegal settlement started to take photos of the Palestinian children in an aggressive manner in an attempt to instigate a reaction. An Israeli soldier present attempted to keep the settler children away from the Palestinian children. At one point a settler child provoked and pushed 12-year-old Muawiya Abu Haikal and then chased him down the hill with a few other settler children. One of the settler boys pepper sprayed Muawiya and a soldier in the face before running off. Israeli soldiers claimed that the settler boy that had used the pepper spray was taken to the police station at Kiryat Arba, a nearby illegal settlement. An Israeli soldier said that the Israeli police would be arriving to take statements and make a report but they never came. At no point did anyone witness the settler boy being arrested. Muawiya Abu Haikal needed an eye wash in order to relieve the irritation caused by the pepper spray in his eyes which lasted for almost 30 minutes. An international present stated, If the Palestinian boy had been the one with the pepper spray, he would have been arrested by the Israeli army, taken straight to the police station and charges would have been brought forth against him. Whenever settlers cause harm to Palestinians they rarely face any type of consequence.
