Earlier we asked the question: WHAT IS GOD TALKING ABOUT HERE? WHAT DO THESE VERSES MEAN? Jeremiah 23:23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. 25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; 27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. 28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD. 29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? 30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. 32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD. What are your thoughts? Well take a look at for our next Sunday study, Lord willing. Be blessed Lets take a look at these now: (It is important to read this chapter from verse 1, so we can understand what God is telling us. To summarize it, God is angry at the false pastors that scatter His sheep. However, He will repay them for their evil doings. His elect will, Judah and Israel shall be saved. In spite of lies that these pastors tell He will save His people. [ vs.21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.] Basically, God is emphasizing His truth that are maligned by false prophets.) So lets continue Jeremiah 23;; Vs.23-24 God is asking a rhetoric question as if he is a God like a man that cannot reach far. Are they going to do this and get away with it? Is there a place where they can go to hide from God where Gods punishment will not reach them? Vs.25. The false prophets have said that they have a dream and that God spoke to them in a dream. (We see churches that say that their prophet has received a revelation or a dream from God. These are lies because God no longer speak to us in dreams or visions since His Word, the Bible was complete. [Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: ] After the Bible was written, some 2000 years ago, God no longer speak to us in any way other than through His Holy Word, the Bible. {we will find out later}) Vs.26 How long will they lie? They will continue to lie because they are NOT given wisdom by God, they are NOT taught by the Spirit of God, so subsequently they lie because the do not know the truth. Vs.27 By telling lies about their dreams, people will follow and be snared by their tricks and will deceive many to forget God (turn away from God and follow Baal (false gods.) because they are blind. Vs.28 [ The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.] Were reminded of the parable of the wheat and the tare. We read; Matthew 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. The prophet that continue to spread lies, let him continue. So is one that understand and teaches the TRUTH of His Word faithfully. Lies do not compare to the truth, as the chaff (husk) is to the wheat. (The wheat is what bread is made from and the BREAD of life is the Lord Jesus Christ. [John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.] Vs.29 [ Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?] The Word of God, the Bible is the sentencing document that God will use for final judgment. [2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.] (Ungodly men here are the false prophets. Vs.30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. Our task as the elect child of God is to bring the love (agape) of god to our neighbour. However, the false prophet cannot do that because he is NOT given the truth by God. His efforts are what he tries to learn on his own and tries to do right by himself. (We cant do right by ourselves. We cannot choose to do right. We have to be chosen by God as one of His elect and then are taught His truth.) We read; Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: Those that have been chosen by God (His elect) will he save and abound on him godly wisdom and knowledge to understand the mystery of His Word, the Bible. Vs.31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Anyone that declares that {God said} is a liar because we just learned that God speaks to us only through His Word, not by dreams or visions. (Same that we read in verse 25) Vs.32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD. Clearly we can see the thrust of this whole chapter, is the disqualification of any other means where God speaks to us and communicates truth other than His Word. In conclusion,we may be astounded to put all these into perspective because and element of timeline might skew some from understanding our lesson. If anything is more clear, these lessons teaches us about how God exists outside of time, our celestial clock and that His Holy, Inspired, Infallible, Inerrant, tried and True Word, the Bible was and is in the mind of God before it was all written, for the sole purpose to show mercy and His great love (agape) for His chosen elect. We looked at the law and the prophet, which is the Word of God, the Bible, in our study yesterday where it hung (depended) on the two commandments of 1. Loving God. 2. Loving our neighbor. This is emphasized in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. We read; Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. We will not delve into this whole parable but we wanted to focus only on verse 29: ...They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. The Gospel of salvation is ONLY and THROUGH His Holy, Inspired, Infallible, Inerrant, Tried and True Word of God, the Bible. THATS IT.There are no dreams and no visions because if these things were considered, How do we know what is and what isnt from God? It is very clear from our study that the only way for us to know God is through His Word where He reveals Himself to His elect through the Holy Spirit. We read; Colossians 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: This is the sole message of Jeremiah 23 is that it is the only TRUTH about God is from His Word. Is it not therefore imperative for us to see if we are one of His by reading and seeking all that we can to see if we too can understand? (Questions & Comments welcomed.) May God give us eyes to see and the ears to hear. o se auauna.
