Early Literacy Tip: Mind the Word Gap! Studies show that children who hear more words in their early years are more successful readers later in life. By the time they start kindergarten, some children have heard over 300 million MORE words than other children! Talking to your child (in the car, while you are cooking dinner, while they are in the bath) builds their verbal vocabulary, and sets them up for reading success. TV doesnt count! There is no substitute for conversing directly with a child.
