Early Tuesday morning a local family was awaken from their sleep by their smoke detector. This family didnt ignore the beeping sound, they acted appropriately and quickly left there home wearing what they had on, out into a -15 degree night. Their home was on fire! They called 911 and got their pets safely away from the raging fire. AFD along with mutual aid departments responded out into the frigid night. The report from the scene that everyone from the dispatchers to the fire fighters love to hear came early EVERY ONE IS OUT! Please read this, I am screaming it at you! SMOKE DETECTORS SAVE LIVES!!! In rural areas served by paid on call (volunteers) it is physically nearly impossible for us to get there fast enough, you must take measures to save yourself by having working smoke detectors. This family has lost nearly every material thing, most can be replaced. Their family is safe and is fine.
